Why did Jesus have to die for us?
Do you know? Let me explain…
In the beginning, in the Old Testament times, when God was present with His people, God had the Israelites offer their most perfect animals as an offering, which would essentially wipe their sinful debt.
Sinful action + a perfect lamb sacrificed = debt cleared with God
There always has to be a consequence to a bad action. Something to right the wrong. Only something so pure could clear that sinful debt.
Just like in the courts. If I were to steal something I would be found out and have to be set before a judge who would determine my punishment.
In Old Testament times, the punishment for sin was physical death. God put many people to death due to their sinful actions and refusing to listen to Him. For many years, the Israelites went through a cycle of: worshipping God, sinning, and turning their backs on Him, suffering the consequences of being apart from God, then God, in His grace, saved His people, and then the Israelites started the cycle again of worshipping God.
And we do the same.
It’s clear here that sin is in our nature, but of course, we knew that from Adam and Eve.
Without God, we are nothing. We need a personal relationship with God. He loves us and desires a personal relationship with us all; there is no exception. Understand that by following His rules, our lives will be much more fulfilling. God brings more to life, and only when we include Him in our plans and throughout our day can we see Him working.
So, with the Israelites continuously repeating this pattern, and also every human sinning, something had to change. There had to be a final sacrifice that would fully satisfy the full wrath of God once and for all, throughout all time, and for all humanity.
In walks Jesus.
